Well, they were called "Portagee Pickels" on the Coast. At least old "Meadow Lark" (Chuck Luce") started that back in the late 60s- early 70s.

All cars were billed at 100 K pounds but actual weight was over 110 to 125.

Coming down Cuesta, if you could only see about 10 to 15 cars behind the engines, (brake shoe haze) you had a good set and kept it until you got to Foothill Blvd.
