They made a number of movies on the line, too. There are some stretches with amazing scenery like at Salt Creek.

I used to work the old SP Ferrum local, back when Indio still was the terminal, and dinosaurs still roamed the earth. I was always amazed they were able to stop the train coming down the steep Eagle Mountain grade into the Ferrum interchange (I recall at least one time they didn't stop in time, spreading a lot of taconite pellets, as new ballast...). The Eagle Mountain was an amazing example of heavy tonnage railroading on "roller coaster" grades.

It's really too bad that we've never managed to set aside and save, or preserve a line, like that great part of Jawbone through Little Lake, or some of the Eagle Mountain line, for a "speeder" park?
