A train carrying lumber and gas oil, among other items, derailed Friday afternoon in Sacramento County southwest of the J.R. Davis Railyard between Antelope and Roseville, according to the Roseville Fire Department and the track’s operator, Union Pacific.
Three cars were on their side while two cars off the rails remained upright after the incident, which happened around 12:15 p.m., according to UP officials. There was no immediate threat surrounding homes and businesses, fire officials said.
Three of the cars were carrying liquid petroleum gas, known as LPG, while the other derailed cars were carrying lumber, according to Kristen South, a spokeswoman for UP. None of the tankers were leaking, and no one was hurt, South said. The cause for the derailment is under investigation.
As a precaution, hazmat crews from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department were also on-site, which is near the Home Depot on Antelope and Roseville roads, as officials worked to clear the tracks.
Incidents involving freight trains typically would be investigated by the Federal Railroad Administration; calls to the Washington, D.C.-based agency after-hours were unanswered.
