I have hiked and seen several parts of the Pacific Coast Trail in N. Calif. All that I have seen are simply trail. Yes, there has certainly been trail work but it is just a very basic hiking trail. No grading, no pavement in the several portions I have hiked and seen. It is very steep in places making grading/paving virtually impossible. I think the idea from the outset was to build a trail and keep it basic. Usually only about 2 feet wide in most places.
