[Off Topic] E. Coli and Romaine lettuce

I was just eating some packaged salad with Romaine. When I opened the package it seemed like a faint odor of cow manure. Figured it was my imagination. I ate a bit and then felt the cow manure sensation again. Ugh.

So I put down my fork and read the label on the package. It says harvested from the Imperial Valley or Yuma, AZ. I think I'm just gonna toss the salad. No more appetite. Wondering if this is that E. Coli tainted lettuce they keep shipping.

Should we buy produce from local growers who swear up and down they don't use any nasty, filthy fertilizers? I'm thinking of going that way if I can find a store that sells it.
