Yes the engineer moves the throttle & brake handles but the computer takes over beyond that. In fact there's a computer screen that the engineer has to look at for throttle & brake info. Can't remember how many times working the Surfliners & the engines would up & quit. The engineer would go thru all kinds of checks in the computer to fix the problem. When that didn't work he'd have to call 8th St for help. Most of the problems were due to the computer sensing a problem when there really wasn't one!
