Regarding the comments that "... computers don't run the locomotive... "; in a modern locomotive EVERYTHING is run by, or at least THROUGH the computer. I believe this is the point Cajon is trying to make. The onboard computers have a nasty habit of shutting down the locomotive for seemingly unknown reasons. Several years ago, while onboard a Leavenworth Snow Train, both locomotives shut down about 2 miles inside the 8 mile long Cascade Tunnel while still pulling the uphill grade. This was somewhat disconcerting to me, as I was in the rear car on the train !!! My scanner picked up the Engineer telling the conductor to " ... tie down some handbrakes before we start rolling back down. " A few minutes later the engineer "... reset the computers...", the lights came back on, and away we went. Our return departure was also delayed by more "computer problems" while switching ends in Wenatchee. Both locomotives were Amtrak P - 42's...
