just so you understand where I come from, on my dad's side, he fled the Bolsheviks with a passport which became toilet paper while he was crossing the Black Sea. In a manner never explained to us as children, a passport was invented (perhaps with the aid of the Armenian Church) in Istanbul. So, by some definitions he entered illegally although he was accepted at Ellis Island. Having been naturalized he was a tax paying, voting citizen, BUT, as an Armenian, he was covenanted out of some neighborhoods even though a civil servant of DOW/DOD. As to his fear of the Bolsheviks, his brother-in-law was one of Stalin's millions of victims (arrested, secret trial, shot).
On my mother's side,the great grandfather fled the potato famine. Presumably you are aware of anti-Irish attitudes and behavior before newer immigrants replaced them as targets of supposed "real Americans"--none of whom were invited in the natives/"Indians".

So, should I put first the ideals of the so-called real Americans who dissed my ancestors on both sides? How different is an impoverished person from outside the US today fleeing violence and poverty from my ancestors doing the same? And as to money spent on healthcare, or education, unless you have the guts to out front call for exterminating those without "your" permission to be here, in the tenets of most religions, they are,like you, all members of the flock looked after by the deity(ies) professed for a few minutes each week before most go back to behaviors expressly prohibited in the teachings of whichever faith.
