Re: beating a dead horand calling "BS" on wait and transfer time for transit users?

The "BS" is that this connection will work very well has been coming from SMART. Not from this piece on the real time it takes.
It could take as little as 8 minutes "in theory". It can also take 11 minutes, by some routes, and at a certain pace, with certain wait times for signals, as has been demonstrated. And, in reality, it can take as long a 15 minutes, to cover this distance, if you are with young children, are elderly, or disabled.
In the most basic "rule of thumb" "multiplier" of transit connectivity "disutility" to users do to wait time and "transfer" penalties, is about 3 times in vehicle travel time. Thus, an 11 minute "wait" or walk from the train to the ferry is the equivalent of a 33 minute travel time penalty. And, that sucks, if you really want folks to use the train and to transfer to the ferry.
The post above about the Ferry schedules, adds another time penalty for wait times or missed connection, that is also "rule of thumb" three times travel time. So every minute extra to the user, standing around waiting for a train of a ferry to show up, with their thumbs up their rear ends, is to the typical potential train user, the equivalent of 3 minutes of their life wasted.
So now add that 11 minute walk, to the long wait between boats and trains, and this will perform much more poorly than it could be. So yeah, it sucks, and that's the "real" "BS" here. And, that's all on SMART's Board and management.
