Dick,
That hits the nail on the head on
the end with SP. We were going out on our own and trying to sign up shippers. We watched for cars that didn't show, in an order of 10 cars, 2 would show up. Hell, I was in engine service and we had 5 other guys trying to get the business. It didn't help when an agent would tell you, "Just stay on your engine. We will give out business when we can afford it."

My personal opinion, they were just waiting for a a golden hand shake.


You know, I don't think the UP is much better.
