Lack of Connectivity @ Larkspur

It's not the walk that will limit the ridership of SMART
to Larkspur.

Take a close look at the new SMART schedule and compare it
to the ferry departures and arrivals.

Trains arrive every 32 minutes during the AM peak hours according
to the schedule. But then their arrival times start varying until the peak PM
Ferries depart every 20 minutes for a while during the peak then
switch to longer times.

This makes for long and variable connect times. Some trains do
arrive at about the right time. Then the next one can be a lot
longer. Similarly on the way back. If the train is delayed in the
AM for whatever reason, a commuter could spend a lot of time waiting
for the next ferry. Similarly on the way back.

As a rule, commuters aren't willing to add this much time to their
daily commute, let alone, face uncertainty and a complex schedule, such
that missing the desired ferry can lead to a long wait time at night
on the Larkspur Landing platform.

The walk has caught all of the attention. Makes for a great video
and raises issues about what will happen in bad weather etc.
No one is talking about the wait times. They should.

And then there is the expectation of "all of those weekend train riders
who have wanted to take the train to Larkspur." What about the
rail fares vs. driving and parking at the ferry parking lot? It's
wide open on weekends. A few will.

I predict: when the dust settles, not many.

And these are the counts that SMART won't release before the vote in March.
