City of Astoria owns about 3 or so miles from the end of line to Tongue Point. Trolley runs on it. No industry, city is gentrifying and is now full of hipster brewpubs and restaurants and hotels.
Absolutely nothing from Tongue Point to Wauna. Railroad is heavily overgrown, at least one major washout that was never repaired.
About the only use for it would be a tourist train. No hope of industry and whatever industry that has any interest is quickly scared off by everyone from Astoria's hipsters to Portland's anti-car, anti-oil environmentalists to Salem's anti-corporate left-wingers. Basically, you can blame Oregonian environmentalists for the demise of this once profitable, successful railroad. Because minimum wage servers and baristas who must work 2-3 jobs and share an apartment with four other people while on every government handout program are more important than loggers and sawmill workers making family wages and paying good taxes and contributing to the economy.
