Re: When C&NW was still in S. Dakota

As we approach the 40th anniversary of MILW's demise, I'm reminded how I returned to the Inland Northwest 4 years too late to see or photograph any of it. Regretting equally that I never wandered far enough east (or far enough west during my years in New Jersey) to catch CNW before it got swallowed by that bigger yellow behemoth. Seems like I caught some sort of CNW switch job in the Great Lakes region during my drive to NJ in 1988, but nothing compares to the territory where CNW roamed the wide open West, be it the PRB or the Cowboy. Just listen to those SDs sizzle and pulsate as they climb out of town through that shallow cut beginning around 4:40. Not many places where railroading sounds like that any more.
