How right you are,it is a heavyweight car noting the riveted skin and elevated roof just above the isle. And 3 axle trucks too!
This railfan is speculating at the mission that this was built for?
I fond see any track geometry instrument near the rails.
Looking at the roof between the solar panels maybe air intakes.
Maybe air is sucked in and analyzed on instruments aboard.
Or air is sucked into particle filtets and they are later analyzed.
With all the cost saving goals at UP there must a good reason to drag this
mobile lab around.
