Story in the news last week; NS laid off 3500 and does not expect to recall any in the next two years. NS blames it on a faltering economy. The report said that all the layoffs were in train crews. (Whatever that might mean in corporate speak.)

Railroads seem to be a consistent 6-8 month leading economic indicator, so look out, bad time probably are on the way. Another side note; BNSF has been storing well cars all over Washington recently.
