Amtrak 5 at Reno, 2005.

Amtrak 5 heads west on the shoofly in Downtown Reno in December, 2005. Noteworthy because the landmark Fitzgeralds closed and locked its doors yesterday for the first time since 1976 (for good).

Fortunately, the future for Amtrak and passenger rail looks brighter than the Nevada gaming industry's. Although capturing an image like this is now impossible in more ways than one, the Zephyr will continue to roll through - just a little bit north and lower.
