Through the efforts of Mr. Lawrence Dale, former Mayor of Barstow, and longtime Santa Fe Mechanical Dept Officer, a Santa Fe SD40, sub lettered GN 6307 has a new home at the Western America Railroad Museum in Barstow. Considering how long ago the locomotive was painted in the yellow bonnet paint scheme, the blue and yellow paint looks pretty good. The large "Santa Fe" on the long hood has been pained out, along with the "Santa Fe" on the cigar band nose herald. However these details can be rectified at a future time. Anyone have a 12 inch scale version of Details West PL-255 HO snowplow?
This unit likely had one during its Santa Fe road service.
WARM has a Facebook page and a website [
www.barstowrailmuseum.org] The Museum is worth a visit at the "Casa Del Desierto" Harvey House in Barstow. The Museum is open Friday through Sunday 11am to 4pm at 685 N. First Street, Barstow. The Adjacent Route 66 Museum also deserves a look.
