P&W old EMD fleet going away

Per someone on The Trainorders:
“Gone by the end of 2020, if not before. There is an effort by a lcoal group to try to purchase them at scrap value if they don't get purchased by someone else. This includes the 1501 (SD7), 1801 (GP9) and 1852 (SD9), all ex-SP units. 1854 is said to be safe so far.”

Does this “local group” have a name, and do they want help?
