Drew Jacksich here has raised the possibility of suicide, and I guess you could, if consciously planning suicide, decide to text as a way of distracting yourself, but this is more complicated than it needs to be, as far as I can see. He was texting! My own theory, which Drew seems to agree with, is that he was a glutton for attention and couldn't stop texting with his teenage groupies.

The question is less why did he do it than why did Veolia and Metrolink hire someone with such poor judgment, and why did his co-workers (especially that day's conductor) and supervisors enable this? This isn't what's being pursued.

By "rehabilitate" I mean "try to make Sanchez look like a good dude, in spite of his screwups."
