There are several areas in the US, mostly on the East Coast, where the accent is almost indistinguishable from the region in Jolly Ol' England where the original settlers came from. There are also regions where languages like German still predominate - - Lawrence Welk, born and raised in one of the Dakotas, didn't learn English until he was almost 16. And yes, there are differences between Kiwi and Strine, although the typical Yank ear can't readily discern it.
