They are made up in Auburn. I am not sure the Auburn yard could still hold a train made up as such.(coming from Tacoma or other points South.) Right now, first section pulls out partway and the second is made up to the first as it clears the switch.
My only thought on the after dark procedure is that they can block the Auburn Black Diamond Road grade crossing with less impact after dark when traffic is minimal. That is the only grade crossing they have to deal with until Covington about 10 miles out.
