Of the seven International Port facilities in the Northwest Seaport Alliance, only Pierce County Terminal ( Evergreen & some APL ), Washington United Terminal ( Hyundai ), and Seattle's Terminal Five ( Matson ) were open yesterday. Rumors abound of container ships being held out of port for the duration of their 2 week Coronavirus quarantine period, yet I have not seen any of these ships at anchor in Puget Sound. My employer has been making room in their yards for empties that cannot be in-gated, as well as several export loads of food stuffs & baking materials that " ... will not be accepted at Husky until further notice."
While the 1st quarter ( Jan - Feb - March ) is normally slow for import loads anyways, due to Post - Christmas and Chinese New Year Hangovers, this year is really slow, even excluding last year's mini - Import rush to beat the looming Trade Tariffs. I have already secured an extra ( but unpaid ) day off for Winterail. Other local dray haulers are also cutting back on driver hours. I suspect this may get worse before it gets better.
