There was the Champlain & St. Lawrence Railway's John Molson. (John Molson, a Montreal brewery owner, financed the C & SL.)
There was Northern Pacific #1, the Minnetonka.
The Mount Washington Cog Railway in New Hampshire named all of its locomotives. For example, #1 was named "Old Peppersass," #6 was named "Kancamagus" and #9 was named "Waumbek."
Pennsylvania Railroad's first GG1 was named "Old Rivets."
