The main reason UP might not want to sell is who gets the long haul. Right now, the traffic generated on the line, which is a decent amount, pretty much all goes south to Pocatello and then on UP towards its final destination. If a new, indepedent railroad took over, call it the Idaho and Southern Montana (ISMT), they could easily switch to sending cars north to BNSF and MRL for further movement. This is UP's biggest worry.
