IIRC - Engine has not run since it was retired in 1957(?) by SP&S, though it was originally built for parent NP. Rumor is that it may be lettered as NP on one side and SP&S on the other as SP&S did not run through Kalama but NP did. Plus UP had trackage rights, MILW had trackage rights from Chehalis Jct to Longview area, but all the way to Portland as a condition of BN merger. Not familiar enough to know how far south GN actually got.
(continuing from memory:) 539 had been displayed, went to an individual(?) who had it in the SW Washington area, then he traded it to GCRY as they were looking for bigger/faster power at the time. He ended up with one of GCRY/xLS&I engines (18?) which ran on Mt. Hood for part of one season before it went to SLRG. Not sure what is going to happen to it (presumably still in Alamosa) but the "kit" of SP1744 has been sold to PLA at Niles Canyon where the tender and cab just arrived by truck. The boiler is supposed to go to a boiler shop to have repairs completed.
Totally confused yet?
