GN's giant electrics

I was just digging into the GN electrics and noticed their two huge electrics (5018, 5019) were retired in 1956. One was scrapped, the other one went to UP to be converted into a coal fired turbine #80. Photo below of them (if you can see it?).

Now the GN electrics were for an 11 kV, 25 Hz AC trolley. Turns out the Virginian Railroad's trolley has the same power: 11 kV, 25 Hz AC. Makes me wonder, why didn't the Virginian buy these off the GN??
