It's called FEEDING THE BEAST. Using plyWOOD for non - structural sides, in a car that hauls WOODchips, just made sense. I'm sure wood products shippers liked seeing that. Also, Espee used to specify Oregon Fir for interior & exterior sheathing for wooden boxcars & PFE reefers.
