6590 was the test unit for the Parallel Start concept that was eventually installed in the SDP45's after they were assigned to the Commute Pool. You may remember the "COM-FRT/PASS" toggle switch that was installed in the electrical cabinet of the 3200's. (Amtrak used a similar system in their SDP40F's, but with an over-ride button on the control stand that would provide a Series Start if necessary. )
