I lived for a year in 1971-72 in Palo Alto, and I watched a lot of commuter trains. Thanks for the post.
2 specific points.
1. Most cars were as I remember: the single-level Harrimans, and the 2-level streamliners. But about 8 minutes in, there's a train of all single-level streamline cars, including a round-end observation. I have a vague recollection of an occasional train of single-level streamline cars (or maybe just an occasional car in a commute consist.) My guess is, the streamliner that's about 8 minutes in, and one other, are either Del Monte trains to/from Monterey, or Coast Daylights, which only operated until Amtrak Day, May 1, 1971. I didn't move to Palo Alto until August or September. (Or maybe one of those named trains ran a little while after Amtrak Day, for some reason.)
2. With a still camera, I got a nice photo of a Train Master just before sunset. I can't find it now, of course.
