I see the news media is on the job again.

"Train Conductor Dead, 16 Hurt in Suspicious NYC Subway Fire | NBC New York"

I am suprised the media didn't call him the train pilot!

At least the video clip uses "motorman".

Third rail experts: fire cause?

Did he leave the control handle on a point for example.
