I think the problem from the Glendale grade crossing suicide actually goes to Metrolink as well. There was at least one serious injury in the earlier Burbank grade crossing accident attributable to a passenger being thrown against one of the fixed tables between seats in the Bombardier coaches -- I think this was a lady who was permanently paralyzed. There were similar injuries in the Glendale accident, and from reports, similar injuries in the Chatsworth accident as well -- spinal injuries and major abdominal injuries. The fact is, there aren't air bags or seat belts on Metrolink trains, but in spite of the fact that Metrolink knew what the effect of the fixed tables between the seats would be in collisions after the first Burbank accident, nothing was (or apparently has yet been) done to remove those fixed tables.
I don't know how many injuries have resulted in total from the tables. I'll bet, though, that the damages paid out will be substantial. Nobody in the media seems to be working this, though I'm sure there are a few lawyers who've got it covered.
When you start looking at things like this, Metrolink does look pretty bad -- and not just its contractor.
