Trying to find where a missing shipment to me is ... via FedEx (that alone, based on recent experience with a couple of vendors, is enough to make me shop elsewhere now) ... was reported in Countryside IL so I looked that up in Google Maps. Lo and behold, FedEx Ground (100% truck-served) is actually in La Grange IL, in a warehouse complex along with a huge tire warehouse *right next door* to the old EMD (now Progress Rail) facility. Even better, it's FedEx is tucked in only a couple of miles from the UPS Hodgkins IL hub at Willow Springs yard. So the tracking info from that point reads almost like something on the BNSF even though it's in a (probably team-driven) truck. Eventually, it peters out at a location far away from here, so my confidence (based on recent experience) in its delivery any time near plan is low. UPS does much better - 3 days max from Hodgkins to any place in SoCal and urban parts of NorCal - probably because the box rides a train from there.
Bottom line: big shipping node for both systems, and for FedEx right next to EMD. As a pure trucking outfit, oh, the irony.
