The City of Tacoma currently leases Eatonville to Morton to Mt. Rainier Railroad. Tacoma Rail management chose to not use FEMA funds to fix the washouts and bought a hi-rail truck with the money. MRSR and TR did coexist previously before the washouts but now with a lease in place TR is not marketing Morton nor doing anything there since it is not their track to operate and is out of service in several locations.

Hampton has a facility at Napavine and Alta a contractor at Winlock. Why pay TR to take 2-3 days to get the car to interchange when it can be trucked and loaded on the mainline the same day?

TR could have fixed the line after the washouts but management didn’t want to deal with the mountain division or the fact they weren’t inspecting as they should have and just figured it was easier to pass off to Mt. Rainier Railroad.
