Actually, GMD (Canadian division of EMD) did build some new slugs for Canadian National. These were fairly short (SW/MP length frames) on standard Blomberg trucks. There were two classes depending on how traction motor cooling (AC if a road switcher mother, DC if a switcher mother) and possibly the traction motor connection arrangement.

Thunder Bay used them coupled to the short nose of a rebuilt chop nosed GP9 set up to run long hood forward. I believe they were called HBU (hump booster unit DC switcher) or YBU (yard booster unit for road switchers, GP38-2 then GP9R mothers).

Not to be confused with another class of later CN rebuilds using GP9 frames that are longer.
