That IS kinda STOOPID - even for public transit agencies. Doesn't the Thruway bus have a STEERING WHEEL ???
The " Which Pomona Depot ??? " deal was almost understandable, as they involved two different long - distance trains operating on two different railroads, but only ONE depot had an agent. I recall Espee Pomona Depot agency was closed even before Amtrak; the natives knew this but not always the new - bies. I also spent some time at Santa Fe Pomona Depot, where I would mention the boo - boo's to the agent. He claimed he was adamant about "... always telling passengers buying tickets for Train # 2, where ' the other depot ' was. " This mistake also happened in the other direction a time or two, with passengers for Train # 3 waiting at Espee Pomona.
Espee Pomona Depot was rather difficult to find after Geary Ave. underpass was built, with only 2 small Amtrak direction signs on the street. The depot property was rented out to local trucking firms that left abandoned equipment scattered about. Many times a car would pull up and the driver would ask if " ... this is the Amtrak Train Depot ??? " After confirming which depot they belonged at, we would then explain the procedure: " Wait in your car until sometime between 11:35PM & Daybreak; we will tell you when to get out & place your luggage on the platform. "
