In 1956, Nikita Khrushchev renamed Stalingrad to Volgograd. After the dissolution of the USSR, hundreds of statues of Lenin and Stalin were toppled, demolished or at least removed. And, of course, in Iraq the US invaders arranged a photo op toppling of a statue of Saddam Hussein. A few millennia before, the "wrong" pharoanic names were chiseled away and replaced with (politically) correct names. When all of the Confederate apologists call for re-erecting statues of Stalin I will believe their "respect for history and tradition".
