I would have said that once upon a time, too.... On another planet far far away... Now, in the zombie apocalypse, with the space aliens in charge, who knows...? But, after so much "winning" lately, nothing really surprises me anymore....
Amtrak is mismanaged. This guy is apparently already proving to be as big of a dufus as Anderson was from day one. This is a disastrous move on long distance services, the numbers appear to be the usual line of Amtrak horse crap on the break down of long distance costs, and this move cannot possibly save $150 million. Amtrak can't even keep its story straight, as they seem to bounce from press release to press release... Congress has little power or will to do anything responsive or responsible right now... And, the dysfunctional Executive branch speaks (or more often just "tweets"...) volumes about it's own disconnect from reality, and could care less about any real issues like this...
States, at this time, are not likely to have the short term funding to back fill these cuts, due to the "perfect" economy and the vast tax revenue surpluses states are getting these days, from this "great" economy... The states are becoming hard pressed to even maintain current state supported services and regional and local commuter services due to revenue losses which have resulted from the Covid "hoax"....
And, bless your soul, you still do believe that we live in a democracy, where our elected officials are supposed to represent "us" and might still even give a rat's ass what you or I think, care about, want, or need... In our new "system" of governance you and I don't count, because we don't pay these politicians enough to play at their private casino....
