It might have felt like 79, flying over the jointed rail much of that segment had then, but it was not. As dark territory it was 49 max, and I believe the curves up the hill by the airport were 25 MPH speed restricted, as there's quite a few reverse curves through that segment. Where that train really flew was on the long tangent sections around Shoshone, that was 79 all day (night) long.
