During the 1984 Louisiana World's Fair Daylight trip, there was one segment where the auxiliary tender was NOT used. Somewhere during the Southbound run through California the aux tender suffered a mechanical malady that required setting it out enroute. The 4449 Daylight went over Tehachapi Loop and Soledad Canyon without the extra tender, thereby looking All the World like a proper San Joaquin Daylight from the 1940's. The aux tender was repaired and rejoined the train at Los Angeles.
