Very interesting procedure! Due to the intense heat damage to the bridge, track and railcars there was no other logical way to remove the two cars and begin salvage operations. The value of the two loads of lumber are minor compared to the big picture of getting the line back in service.

It will be interesting to see what route the UP takes and I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to replace the two truss spans they build them in "kits" and assemble them on site...after all how do you move a completed truss from fabrication plant to jobsite except by rail and I'm sure overhead clearances are inadequate.

Interesting situation!!
