I am thinking that Less Than Carload traffic was off American railroads by 1970, or earlier.

In 1965 my family shipped our household belongings from Maryland to So Cal. It took an entire month. We picked everything up at the UP Ontario Freight Station. We were living in borrowed army cots till then.
