We had an oil furnace in Portland. Held about 400 gals. of heating oil. One day we cranked up the furnace and the whole house began to smell like an oil refinery. We had let the tank get too low and were burning the sludge in the bottom of the tank. Our landlord just happened to be in the heating oil business so we got a lecture and our furnace had to be cleaned.
