I might point out that, realistically, a 2-hour HSR trip between, say, San Jose and LA, will take longer door to door unless the origin and destination are both downtown near the train station. I'd allow at least an hour before train time to deal with security (yes, there will be some, probably airport type), plus whatever it takes to get there via Uber or on transit (since there won't be any useful parking at terminal, if not most, stations) - call it another hour - and however long it takes to get somewhere in LA (outside of downtown, at least an hour on transit or otherwise). So 3 hours "other" time and 2 hours train time = 5 hours for the trip. That's competitive with driving (6 hours outside of peak times), but not flying (3-5 hours depending on where you're going to and coming from off-airport), unless you're going downtown to downtown.
