Dynamics for HP testing.

I saw this on the IRM Diesel Shoppe Facebook page:

Earlier today we loaded IT 1605 and CRIP 4506 with SP 1518 behind in dynamic braking. It was good crew training and a good time to test various items on the two Geeps. 1605 came in at about 1,466 horsepower and 4506 at about 1,200 horsepower. We knew the 4506 needs injectors and a governor rebuild, that’ll probably get moved up on the to do list over the winter. Look for more videos of these three locos to be posted over the coming days.

Ok, question, how did they obtain numbers for actual horsepower? Did they do a calculation using Volts and Amps measured in 1518’s circuits (convert electric power to mechanical). I could ask on Facebook but prefer not to participate in that venue.
