Not quite accurate, folks. The preservation of the former Sacramento Southern RR has been the goal of the California State Railroad Museum FOUNDATION, a non-profit entity which supports the railroad museum but isn't limited by all the bureaucratic nonsense of California State Parks which the Museum is forced to operate under. The museum itself is pretty much powerless to make any headway with preservation of the SSRR line, due to the neutral position they are forced to take in the matter by the State Parks people. Without a united front (CSRM and CSRMF) to lobby for preservation, the City perceives weakness that they can take advantage of for their pet projects, and preservation of railroad history goes out the window. This is what good, dedicated people like Denny Anspach (R.I.P.) and Gregg Lukenbill have faced in the fight to save railroad history in Sacramento. Also, it didn't help matters at all when State Parks filled the vacant CSRM Director position with a gentleman who had absolutely no railroad experience.
