Check old branch lines and sidings--the more remote the better your chances. I haven't seen any in place for years but there are bound to be some still out there.

Dan's suggestion of ebay is great, especially if you'd just want a few examples. I'd be loathe to trust any seller's description of what railroad or specific location their nails may have originally come from. Caveat emptor, blah blah blah...

Anyway, good luck if you head out--it'll only take one or two to get you psyched.
