Are we seeing the new type of mergers from NS's recent actions? They entered into joint operation w/KCS on the Meridian Speedway and created a new road w/Pan-Am (Guildford) in Pan-Am Southern. Are we to see a parceling and packaging of lines to create new ones rather than the supposedly inevitable mega-mergers? Can UP package up the Overland Route w/CSX's Water-level route? What value does BNSF have in the Transcon as a part of a fully trancon route? These are just some thoughts that have been rattling around in the brain for a while now.
