This is not the Pacific Electric "Air Line", this is not the Los Angeles and Independence, the Palms depot was never located on this line, which goes nowhere near West Hollywood. That line is today's Expo line.... The wrong former PE line in this picture....
This is the route of the Pasadena and Santa Monica route laid down in the 1890's, later PE via Hollywood, Sunset, and Santa Monica Blvd, that came together at West Hollywood, where there was a major PE Red car yard, and ran to Santa Monica via Santa Monica Blvd. past the Troubadour, through downtown Beverly Hills, and past Century City.
This was an LA-Hollywood-Beverly Hills-Santa Monica route via Santa Monica, via Echo Park on Sunset... This line was later cut back to a freight branch after the Red cars stopped in the mid fifties, operating for many years in the street on Santa Monica Blvd all of the way to East Hollywood. It was cut back more in the late sixties, to just West Hollywood, serving industries like the Wonder Bread Bakery in Beverly Hills... This segment past the Troubadour was abandoned by the early 80's.
All of these old PE branches on the west side, connected to the "Airline" and in the sixties and seventies, the jobs that worked these branches was based at Culver City, and as these segments were abandoned, the locals operated out of Butte Street (J yard at 26th and Alameda now the Alameda Corridor trench).
