Mac, I don't even know why Australia declared war on Japan. The were not attacked, so they could have just sat back, had popcorn and watched like Switzerland.

Australian POW's helped build Japan's "the death railway" to Burma for 4 years. Now that was a special kind of _hell.

This date in history:

On October 20, 1944, a few hours after his troops landed, MacArthur waded ashore onto the Philippine island of Leyte. That day, he made a radio broadcast in which he declared, “People of the Philippines, I have returned!”
