Sacramento jacked up curb parking in the downtown area to $2.75/hr normal times, and $3.75/hr on Kings game nights, with reserved spaces and extend-by-an-hour for an extra $1. The purpose was to help pay for the bonds issued to build the downtown Kings' arena and provide an incentive for commuters to go home on time so game attendees could use their parking spaces (monthly passes in parking lots no good after 6 on game nights). Similar pricing changes at city-owned lots and garages, and privately owned places around downtown also jack up prices for game nights (surprise surprise). Light rail charges normal fares, and Kings tickets are also a light rail day pass, but relatively few people are willing to park at light rail station lots and ride the train at night even with extra security so the service gets 1 extra train and that's it.
Game nights were Before Covid, of course. Presumably, they will return at some point (have to, to pay off the arena).
So why should SF be any different when it comes to fundraising?
